Lee Seong-Jae

Cho Seon-Ahr
Abstract
Purpose: We intended to suggest a few things which are necessary in the voluntary service activity and it¡¯s activation by analysing the perception and the actual state of the voluntary service activity of visual optics students.

Methods: We carried out a survey on the perception, the actual state, the satisfaction of visual optics students and compared the results with another survey results of architecture and computer engineering students. The survey data was analyzed by data sorting, mean and mode calculations.

Results: Visual optics students showed the higher perception of voluntary service compared to architecture and computer engineering students and had more idea to use their major or specialty in performing the voluntary service. However visual optics students had some difficulty to access the information for voluntary service and performed the voluntary service due to students records or job searching. Also visual optics students could respect others and expect new relationships through voluntary service but couldn't get a leadership, the confidence and concern about local community.

Conclusions: In university it is needed to raise the perception of voluntary service and provide the sufficient information of it through voluntary service education. Also by building up an upright character through a preliminary voluntary service education university should let the students perform the voluntary service with their own will regardless of any rewards such as students records and the benefit in job application. As a result it can raise the satisfaction and the achievement of their study and job in future.
